Trossi Scores 1,000th Point in Griffins’ CACC Victory at Nyack College

Nyack, N.Y. – (2/25/2019) – A one-sided second quarter served as the separator as well as the backdrop for history tonight as Chestnut Hill College outscored Nyack College 25-12 in the frame and senior guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) recorded the 1,000th point (48-29, 1:28) of her collegiate career en route to a 71-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over the Warriors. Three Griffins finished in double figures, but it was a 16-point, 10-rebound, double-double from freshman forward Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) that led the Scarlet and Gold.
 
Chestnut Hill College (9-16, 7-10) controlled the early-going and owned an eight-point, 18-10 (2:56), before Nyack College (4-23, 2-16) was able to coordinate a late first quarter response that trimmed the deficit to five points, 25-20, for the quarter break. The Warriors initially made ground in the second quarter, cutting the Griffin lead to two points, 27-25 (7:47), before a Wildgoose and-one (32-27, 5:42) ignited a 21-5 Chestnut Hill College run to halftime, 50-32, that included Trossi's historic bucket. After intermission, Nyack College gained ground during low-scoring third and fourth quarters. Fortunately, Chestnut Hill College afforded themselves with enough leeway to endure the Warrior rally.
 
Junior forward Jocelin Wright (Ithaca, N.Y.) led Nyack College with her 19-point, 10-rebound, double-double. She also recorded an assist, a block, and a steal. Junior guard Kayla Given (Newburgh, N.Y.) was her greatest compliment with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
 
The Griffins' 73.3% (22-of-30) first-half shooting performance was good enough to withstand their 26.9% (7-of-26) second-half effort. Miller scored 12 of her 16 points in that opening half; she added an assist and three blocks to her double-double. Freshman guard Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) (8 points) and senior forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Franklin Township, N.J.) (9) also scored a majority of their points in the first half, before finishing the affair with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Spratt's points matched her season-high; she also recorded three rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Wildgoose totaled seven rebounds, an assist, and two steals in addition to her 11 points. Trossi added three assists to her historic six points.
 
Chestnut Hill College continues their schedule on Wednesday, February 27, when they visit Jefferson for a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
