Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/27/2019) – Chestnut Hill College traveled down Henry Avenue for tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Jefferson. There, the Lady Rams earned a 79-65 victory over the Griffins thanks to a 26-point performance from senior center Beverly Kum (Hagerstown, Md.) and an 18-point, 13-rebound, double-double from senior guard Jessica Kaminski (Philadelphia, Pa.). The Scarlet and Gold effort was headlined by a 17-point, 10-rebound, double-double from freshman forward
Leah Miller (Punxsutawney, Pa.) and a solid perimeter shooting performance (5-of-9, .556 3PT%) from freshman guard
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.).
The lead changed hands three times and was tied six times in a highly-competitive first quarter between Jefferson (25-2, 16-2) and Chestnut Hill College (9-16, 7-10). Senior forward
Jaeda Wildgoose (Franklin Township, N.J.) gave the Griffins their first lead of the affair with a successful and-one opportunity at 6:36 (6-4), but the Lady Rams recovered a jumper from senior forward Erin Maher (Lansdale, Pa.) (6-6, 6:07) and back-to-back, fastbreak buckets that forged them a 10-6 edge. A Crim three pointer reduced the deficit to a single point, 10-9 (3:45) and a pair of free throws from Wildgoose returned Chestnut Hill College to the lead, 11-10 (2:55). The back and forth continued over the final minutes of the opening frame, but unfortunately finished in the home team's favor as a last-possession three from sophomore guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.), 16-15 (0:24), was matched by a Maher three with a second left on the first-quarter clock, 18-16 (0:01).
Regrettably, the tone of the contest changed with the quarter as Jefferson opened the new frame with a 13-2 run that put Chestnut Hill College in a 31-18 (6:20) hole. The Griffins never recovered, falling behind by 15 points by halftime, 42-27 (0:45) and 20 points with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter, 65-45 (0:59). The Scarlet and Gold managed to narrow the final deficit to 14 points, 79-65, with a 17-12 fourth-quarter edge.
Kum added nine rebounds, two assists, and a block to her game-high 26 points, while Kaminski paired her double-double with five assists and two steals. Maher offered seven points, nine rebounds, an assist, two blocks, and four steals to the Jefferson win. Meanwhile, junior guard Alynna Williams (Ambler, Pa.) finished the affair with 13 points, two rebounds, and five assists.
Miller's double-double – her sixth of the season - came with a block and a steal. Wildgoose served as a solid compliment with 13 points and three rebounds. Crim accounted for 15 of Chestnut Hill College's 25 bench points. She also contributed a rebound and four assists to the Griffin effort.
Chestnut Hill College completes their 2018-2019 regular season schedule on Saturday, March 2, with a 1:00 p.m. CACC contest at the University of the Sciences (USciences).
