Chestnut Hill College Falls to #11 Seton Hill University In Battle of the Griffins

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (2/26/2019) – The battle of the Griffins took place tonight, Tuesday, February 26, at Lafayette Hill, where Chestnut Hill College squared off against #11 Seton Hill University. The Scarlet and Gold kept the match even in the first quarter, 3-3, but Seton Hill University doubled the Griffins' second-quarter production to own a 9-6 halftime edge. Penalties eventually effected Chestnut Hill College in the third quarter, allowing the visitors to double their advantage, 14-8, before they secured the contest by a 19-12 measure. Sophomore midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) led the Scarlet and Gold with five goals, one assist, and three ground balls.

With tallies from senior midfielder Nick Webber (Westwood, Mass.) (1-1, 10:27), senior midfielder John Bennett (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) (2-2, 6:16), and sophomore attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) (3-3, 4:36), Chestnut Hill College (2-1) matched Seton Hill University's (3-2) first-quarter energy, 3-3. The trend continued in the first six minutes of the second period as bookend goals from junior attack Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) (4-3, 11:30) and Revak kept the affair tied, 5-5, with 9:21 remaining in the first half. Unfortunately, Seton Hill University closed the frame with a 4-1 run that left them up 9-6 at halftime. The visitors extended their lead to four goals, 10-6 (12:35), early in the third quarter, but a second Revak goal reduced the deficit to just three goals, 10-7, with 9:27 remaining. But that is when a string of Scarlet and Gold penalties had their effect, allowing Seton Hill University to secure a 14-8 advantage heading to the fourth quarter. There, not only battling the deficit, but a lack of daylight as well, Chestnut Hill College fought valiantly to no avail as the visitors ended the contest with a 19-12 edge.

Senior midfielder Collin Mitchell (Avon Lake, Ohio) headlined Seton Hill University with four goals, while four others - senior midfielder John Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), junior attack Bennett Johnson (Annapolis, Md.), sophomore midfielder Zack Estabrooks (Victor, N.Y.), and sophomore attack Robert Hofseth (Coquitlam, British Columbia) - recorded three goals each. Junior midfielder Jay Scerbo (Woolwich, N.J.) was a factor as well, totaling a goal, 10 ground balls, and three caused turnovers while winning 14-of-21 (.667) face offs. In goal, junior Max Eismann (Rochester, N.Y.) (3-2) recorded eight saves and recovered a pair of ground balls over the opening 51:27.

Along with his five goals, Revak also offered one assist and three ground balls. Howell logged two goals, two assists, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. Bennett, Webber, Wilden, sophomore midfielder Mickey Holland (Brick, N.J.), and sophomore midfielder Billy DiMaio (Homdel, N.J.) all recorded one goal apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Austin Jones (Courtice, Ontario) (2-1) played majority of the game (48:53) for Chestnut Hill College and finished the affair with 15 saves and three ground balls.

Chestnut Hill College continues their schedule on Wednesday, March 6, when they visit the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
