Old Westbury, N.Y. - (3/6/2019) – Today's action brought Chestnut Hill College the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), where a highly-competitive affair climaxed in the closing minutes. The Bears used a strong second period to lead the Griffins to a 7-4 halftime spread, but the Scarlet and Gold scored the last goal of the third frame and the first two of the final to trail their host by a single goal, 11-10, heading to the last three minutes. There, the opponents traded goals twice, leaving Chestnut Hill College a goal shy at game's end, 13-12. Sophomore midfielder
Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) was one of three Griffins to score three goals in the contest; all three came in the second half, before he located senior attack
Casey Brown (Havre de Grace, Md.) for the Scarlet and Gold final tally (13-12, 0:13).
NYIT (1-4) scored the first to goals of the fray, 2-0. Chestnut Hill College (2-2) responded just before the eight-minute mark as sophomore attack
J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) netted an unassisted goal at 8:06, 2-1. About three minutes later (3:57), sophomore attack
Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) connected with Brown to tie the game at 2-2. But NYIT scored the final goal of the opening frame to take a 3-2 lead to the second period. There, Brown repaid Rees (3-3, 10:44) and an unassisted, Howell man-up goal gave the Griffins their only lead of the contest, 4-3 (8:39). Unfortunately, the Bears closed the frame with a 4-0 run that put Chestnut Hill College in a 7-4 hole. Rees (13:41, 7:12) and Revak (7:50, 0:46) each scored twice in the third quarter, helping the Griffins close the gap by a goal for the fourth quarter break, 11-8. Unassisted goals from Revak (11-9, 8:41) and Brown (11-10, 3:19) further reduced NYIT's cushion to one goal, 11-10, but that is as close as Chestnut Hill College would get until Brown's late tally, 13-12 (0:13).
NYIT got a lot of production out of their bench as graduate attack J.T. Forkin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Chris Lieze-Hammel (Horsham, Pa.) each score three of the Bears nine reserve goals. As for their starters, Lenny Innamorato (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the way with two goals, an assist, two ground balls, and a caused turnover, while junior attack Matt Murphy (Shirley, N.Y.) supported with a goal, an assist, and a ground ball. Sophomore midfielder Brian Hoerter (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) won 22-of-29 (.759) face offs, while junior goalkeeper Brian Jockers (North Massapequa, N.Y.) (1-1) totaled 10 saves and two ground balls.
Brown, Revak, and Rees scored three goals apiece for Chestnut Hill College. They each recorded an assist as well; the last also offered a ground ball and a caused turnover. Howell finished with two goals, an assist, a ground ball, and a caused turnover, while senior
Christopher Dachowski (Sellersville, Pa.) headlined the defense in front of freshman goalkeeper
Austin Jones (Courtice, Ontario) (2-2). Jones recorded six saves and four ground balls in the first two quarters. His replacement, junior
Stephen Hogan Jr. (Doylestown, Pa.) made six saves over the closing 30:00.
Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 on Saturday, March 9, when they host Davis & Elkins College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
