Newark, Del. – (2/3/2019) – Chestnut Hill College recorded the first victory of today's spring opener at the University of Delaware at number two doubles, 6-1, but the Blue Hens triumphed in the match, 5-2, with wins at number three doubles (6-3), number one doubles (6-4), number three singles (6-2, 6-2), number two singles (6-1, 6-4), number five singles (6-3, 7-6 (5)), and number four singles (6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-4). Tom Pitchley (London, England) and junior
Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) were responsible for the Scarlet and Gold points; the former played to an impressive 6-1, 7-5, victory at number one singles, while Gavin triumphed at sixth singles, 6-4, 6-2.

Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) got Chestnut Hill College (3-1) off to a good start with their 6-1 victory at number two doubles. Unfortunately, the University of Delaware (3-1) stole the doubles point with successive team wins at number three and number one doubles. The Blue Hens advanced their lead to 2-0 with the first point of singles play as Gautier fell by a 6-2, 6-2, measure in the third individual flight. Pitchley's triumph followed at number one singles, reinforcing the Griffins' confidence for the remainder of the individual flights. But, the University of Delaware matched the Scarlet and Gold intensity and was able to secure their victory with consecutive wins at number two, number five, and number four singles. Gavin trimmed the final margin with his 6-4, 6-2, win at number six singles.
Chestnut Hill College heads south for their next series of matches as they visit Orlando, Florida, for spring break. The Griffins begin the stretch with a Monday, March 4, match versus Christian Brothers University.
