Lakewood, N.J. - (2/5/2019) – Chestnut Hill College got off to a rough start only scoring 18 (46-18, 1
st Half) points in the first half of tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup against Georgian Court University (GCU). In the second half the Griffins were able to outscore the Lions 47-18, but the earlier deficit was too much resulting in the 104-83 loss.
Senior forward
Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) crushed his previous career high (24), logging a 31-points performance. Senior guard
Dexter Thompson (Providence, R.I,), junior guard
Billy Miller VI (Pine Hill, N.J.), and ), freshman forward
Amir Warrick (Washington, D.C.) also tallied double figures in tonight's contest.
Chestnut Hill College (3-18, 0-12 CACC) struggled offensively in the first half, only scoring 18 points with McWade leading the pack with nine points. Unfortunately, Georgian Court University (3-18, 2-10 CACC) used this slump to their advantage and built a 28-point lead over the Griffins (46-18). The Lions continued to expand on their lead to as much as 37 points (10:26, 71-34). Not giving up, the Scarlet and Gold fought back closing the gap to 19 points after a three pointer from Miller VI with 2:37 left on the clock. McWade's gallant effort of scoring 23 points during the final half was far too much for a comeback, ending the match 104-83.
Three Georgian Court University players recorded 19 points each, sophomore guard Kristian Alexander (Middletown, Del.) (2REB, 3STL), freshman guard Justin Figueroa (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (3REB, 4AST, 1STL), and junior guard Caleb Bowser (Philadelphia, Pa.) (3REB, 8AST). Junior forward Matt Ringel (Marlboro, N.J.) was not far behind logging 18 points, while junior guard Sean Barksdale (Lakewood, N.J.) posted 13 points, five rebounds, and one assist.
On top of McWades 31 points he also recorded eight rebounds. Miller was next on the roster scoring 15 points (1STL) and Thompson and
freshman forward Warrick both gave a 10 point performance. Thompson added two rebounds and one steal, while Warrick contributed four rebounds, 3 assists, one block, and three steals.
Chestnut Hill College will continue CACC play on the road against Caldwell University on Saturday, February 9, at 4:00 p.m.
