Rams Outscore Griffins in 17-11 Spread

Shepherdstown, W.V. - (3/16/2019) – Shepherd University kept the tempo in today's contest, pacing Chestnut Hill College to a 6-4 halftime spread and an eventual 17-11 end. Senior midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) headlined the Scarlet and Gold performance with six points (4 goals, 2 assists), six draw controls, and two ground balls, but she had strong support from juniors, Dai Pearson (Pottstown, Pa.) and Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.), who each supplied three goals in the contest.

Shepherd University (2-3) and Chestnut Hill College (1-3) traded two-goal runs in the opening 10 minutes, 2-2 (21:14), afterwards the Rams outscored the Griffins to a 6-4 halftime spread.  Pearson scored both her goals in the opening half (22:40, 6:42), with additional Scarlet and Gold goals coming from Reinert (2-2, 21:14) and junior Haley Norwillo (Duryea, Pa.) (5-4, 4:42). In the second half, an initial two-goal Shepherd University run doubled the margin to 8-4. Reinert twice offered replies (22:29, 19:02), but it was not enough to disrupt the Rams, who outscored the Griffins 8-5 the rest of the way, 17-11.

Junior attack Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md.) was the star for Shepherd University with eight points (4 goals, 4 assists), a ground ball, seven draws, and two caused turnovers. Sophomore attack Sidney Kelly (Hagerstown, Md.) complimented Funke with a seven-point effort (4 goals, 3 assist) that came with a ground ball and a draw control. Freshman goalkeeper Hailey Bennett (Westminster, Md.) (2-3) recorded nine saves and a ground ball.

Reinert, Pearson, Fitzgerald, and Norwillo provided a bulk of the statistics for Chestnut Hill College. Pearson added a ground ball, a draw, and a caused turnover to her three goals, while Fitzgerald contributed an assist, three ground balls, a draw, and two caused turnovers to hers. Norwillo offered an assist, two ground balls, a draw, and a caused turnover to her tally. In goal, senior goalkeeper Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) (1-3) recorded 13 saves, five ground balls, and a caused turnover in the loss. She was helped tremendously by senior defender Kaley Malampy (Ridley Park, Pa.), who hustled to 10 ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.

Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 on Thursday, March 21, when they host Bloomsburg University in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
