John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) and sophomore right fielder
Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) - was all sophomore
Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) needed to earn his first win (1-3) of the season as he struck out seven while limiting Felician University to one run on nine hits and a walk in a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final. In game two, the Golden Falcons built a 4-1 lead in the first three innings. Chestnut Hill College closed the gap with a fifth-inning, ground-rule double from junior third baseman
Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.), 4-2, but Felician University got it back in the sixth inning of a 5-2 end. Sophomore shortstop
Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) was 3-for-6 on the afternoon with a walk and a run.
Felician University (7-13, 1-1) sought revenge for their game one defeat with four runs in their first three at-bats of game two, while Chestnut Hill College (6-10, 1-1) generated their early run in the first inning thanks to a one-out single from Healey. He immediately stole second base and advanced to third base on a wild pitch, before scoring on a throwing error by the Golden Falcon catcher to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold would not get on the scoreboard again until the fifth inning, when Uzzell's double brought home freshman second baseman
Luke LeBeau (Pittsfield, Mass.), 4-2. But pair of sixth-inning singles and a Griffin error allowed the Golden Falcons to reestablish their three-run cushion, 5-2, for the final haul.
In the opener, both sides plated a first-inning run, 1-1. Chestnut Hill College broke the stalemate in the fifth inning with a leadoff single from freshman designated hitter
Dutch Reardon (Lafayette Hill, Pa.), a pair of Felician University errors, a Barletta fielder's choice, 2-1, and a run-scoring single from Contoudis, 3-1. Bethel and the Griffin defense took care of the rest, working through nine Golden Falcon hits and a walk. Sophomore
Will Shaffer (Sicklerville, N.J.) covered the final inning (1IP, 1H, 1K) and earned his first collegiate save (1). Contoudis was 1-for-5 and knocked in two runs with a first-inning grounder and his fifth-inning single.
Chestnut Hill College and Felician University will meet again on Friday, March 20, when the Griffins host the Golden Falcons in a 12:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader at Latshaw-McCarthy Field.
