Wildcats Sweep Griffins in CACC Doubleheader

Norristown, Pa. - (3/29/2019) – Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play continued today for Chestnut Hill College, who hosted Wilmington University for a pair of games at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. In the first game, despite the Griffins posting three early runs, the visiting team came back and posted four runs in the seventh inning resulting in a 7-3 final.  The Wildcats put up big numbers in the fifth inning to overshadow the Griffins in a 22-10 second game final.

Sophomore first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) (1-0, 2nd inning) sophomore shortstop Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-0, 2nd inning), and senior outfielder Franklin Ramirez (Reading, Pa.) (3-0, 2nd inning) were responsible for Chestnut Hill College's (9-15, 4-6 CACC) only three runs in the first game.  Unfortunately, Wilmington University (18-8, 7-3 CACC) tied the contest, 3-3 by the top of the fifth inning and secured the win in the seventh bringing in four runs (7-3).

In the second game, the Scarlet and Gold scored two runs in the first and second inning, one run in the third and fifth inning, and finally four runs by the six inning; but the Wildcats' ten runs by the second inning and 11 runs in the fifth put the game out of reach (22-10).

Dietz, Healey, and Ramirez were the only scorers of the first game posting one run each, with Ramirez (1) and junior outfielder Zach Szumigala (2) (Fairless Hills, Pa.) recorded their only runs-batted-in (RBI) as well.  In game two, sophomore outfielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) headlined for the Griffins posting three runs and one RBI, while sophomore catcher Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) followed with two runs and three RBI.  Healy, Ramirez, freshman outfielder Jonas Baker(Delran, N.J.), senior outfielder Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.) all finished with one run each.
