Norristown, Pa. – (3/30/2019) – Senior catcher
Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) had a colossal game one with a third-inning, two-run home run and a fourth-inning grand slam. Unfortunately, his six runs-batted-in (RBI) was not enough to deliver Chestnut Hill College a victory as Post University rallied for a 13-7 victory with seven runs in the fifth inning. In game two, the Scarlet and Gold enjoyed their third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) home walk-off win in the last week as sophomore shortstop
Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.) plated freshman pinch runner
Jonas Baker (Delran, N.J.) with a game-winning single to left field, 7-6.
Post University (10-12, 8-4) took the initial lead of the afternoon with three runs in the second inning, 3-0. Chestnut Hill College (10-16, 4-7) got a run back in the bottom of the frame thanks to a leadoff single from Healey, a one-out single from junior designated hitter
Dutch Reardon (Lafayette Hill, Pa.), and a sacrifice fly from sophomore left fielder
Michael Perugini (Tamarac, Fla.), 3-1. The Eagles reasserted themselves with two runs in the third inning, 5-1, but the Griffins kept pace, scoring two runs of their own with Gilham's two-run homer, 5-3. Post University made it 6-3 with a run in the fourth inning, but that is when Gilham connected again, this time plating four runs with a grand slam to left center field, 7-6. Unfortunately, seven Eagle runs in the fifth inning gave the visitors the cushion they needed for an eventual 13-7 victory. Sophomore centerfielder
John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.) (2-for-4, 2R), Gilham (2-for-3, 2R, 6RBI), and Reardon (2-for-4, 1R) each recorded two hits; Gilham's six RBI is a single-game, career-high.
In game two, Post University scored two runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, and a run apiece in both the fourth and sixth innings. Meanwhile, Chestnut Hill College matched their pace with a run in the first inning, a run in the third inning, and four runs in the fourth inning. Knotted at 6-6, the CACC opponents reached the seventh frame. There, the Eagles went scoreless before a pair of one-out singles from Gilham and sophomore first baseman
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) set the table for Healey. Baker then replaced Gilham at third base and scored easily on Healey's single to left field, 7-6. Healey was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Gilham (2-for-4, 1R), Dietz (2-for-4), sophomore right fielder
Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) (2-for-4, 1RBI) and junior third baseman
Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) (2-for-3, 1R, 1RBI) recorded two hits apiece, while senior designated hitter
Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.) (1-for-3, 1R, 2RBI) knocked in a pair of runs with a fourth-inning homer and Perugini (1-for-2, BB) scored twice after a leadoff double in the third inning and a two-out walk in the fourth inning. Sophomore
Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) earned his third win (3-2) of the season in relief. He worked the final two innings, allowing a run on a hit and a walk.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 3, when they visit the University of the Sciences (USciences) for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
