Orlando, Fla. – (3/4/2019) – Chestnut Hill College battled from behind in doubles play and won five out of six singles matches at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Center today, Monday, March 4, to defeat Christian Brothers University by a 6-1 measure. Freshman
Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) was a part of two of the Griffins' victories, contributing to a 7-6 (2) win at number two doubles and scoring a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win at number five singles.
Christian Brothers University (7-5) earned the first win of the afternoon with a 6-3 end at number one doubles, but Chestnut Hill College (4-1) answered with 7-6 wins in both the second and third flights. Adler and junior
Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) won the deciding point in the third flight first with a 7-2 score, then Junior
Antoine Gautier (Bordeaux, France) and sophomore
Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) triumphed at number two doubles with a 7-4 mark.
In individual play, Darias quickly gave the Griffins a 2-0 edge with his 6-0, 6-4, win at number two singles. The Buccaneers issued their only answer in the third singles match with a 6-3, 6-1, victory (2-1) because afterwards Chestnut Hill College clinched consecutive points at number four (7-6 (6), 6-1) and number five (6-4, 2-6, 10-5) singles, 4-1. Chestnut Hill College continues play on their spring trip in Orlando, Florida, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5, with a match versus the University of Francis (Ill.).
