Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/17/2019) – Chestnut Hill College owned a 10-7 advantage with 24:26 remaining in the second half, but an 8-3 Holy Family University run to the final horn left the Griffins in the short side of a 15-13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final. Junior
Dai Pearson (Pottstown, Pa.) and senior midfielder
Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) headlined the Scarlet and Gold effort; the former totaled five goals, four ground balls, a draw, and two caused turnovers, while the latter offered four goals, eight ground balls, five draws, and three caused turnovers.
Chestnut Hill College (4-7, 2-3) controlled the first 15 minutes of the affair, sporting a 7-3 lead after a goal by senior attack
Rita Lynn Trainer (Conshohocken, Pa.) at 15:45. Pearson scored three unassisted tallies (25:38, 21:19, 16:24) during that opening stretch, while Reinert provided two goals (27:12, 22:34), and sophomore
Gab Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) supplied her collegiate first to account for the other Griffins tallies. Unfortunately, the Trainer tally was followed by a 4-1 Holy Family University (2-11, 1-5) run that left the halftime spread at a single goal, 8-7. It was also a glimpse at the half to come as the Griffins score the first two goals of the second half, before an 8-3 Tiger comeback reversed fortunes in a 15-13 end.
Senior midfielder Devon Felix (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) led Holy Family University with six goals, three ground balls, 14 draws, and a caused turnover. She was complimented by the efforts of junior midfielder Casey Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior midfielder Vanessa Pagliei (Linwood, N.J.); the former supplied four goals, three ground balls, a draw, and a caused turnover, while the latter totaled three goals, an assist, a ground ball, and two draws. Freshman midfielder Tatceyana Pulley (Edgewater Park, N.J.) was the only other Tiger to offer a point, with her two goals and an assist. In goal, sophomore Jenna Heath recorded 10 saves and two ground balls in the win (2-10).
In addition to Pearson and Reinert, junior midfielder
Spencer Fitzgerald (Huntingtown, Md.) was a significant contributor for Chestnut Hill College. She offered a goal, two assists, a ground ball, two draws, and two caused turnovers. Senior midfielder
Kaley Malampy (Ridley Park, Pa.) was a factor as well with an assist, four ground balls, three draws, and two caused turnovers. In goal, senior
Valeria Amaya (Oakland, Calif.) (4-7) made a dozen (12) saves and recovered two ground balls.
Chestnut Hill College resumes their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 23, when they visit Wilmington University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
