Hockessin, Del. – (4/23/2019) – Today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins at Goldey-Beacom College – 6-0 and 4-2 – established a program-best, single-season conference win mark as Chestnut Hill College improved to 19-9 in league play. Sophomore Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) was the star of game one, allowing the Lightning only three hits in his first complete game shutout of his collegiate career. The Scarlet and Gold gave sophomore Thomas Hughes (Phoenixville, Pa.) all the run support he needed in the first inning of game two as a run-scoring single to left field sophomore centerfielder John Contoudis (Jenkintown, Pa.), a Goldey-Beacom College error, and a sacrifice fly from senior catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) provided a 3-0 cushion that endured in an eventual 4-2 end.
 
After the Griffins' first-inning production, Hughes limited Goldey-Beacom College (13-31, 12-16) to two runs over their first four at-bats of game two, 3-2. Chestnut Hill College (24-19, 19-9) added an insurance tally in the top of the fifth inning, where a leadoff single from freshman second baseman Luke LeBeau (Pittsfield, Mass.), a bunt single from junior third baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.), and a Contoudis sacrifice fly pushed the spread to its final margin, 4-2. LeBeau (2-for-3) and sophomore right fielder Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) (2-for-3) each recorded multiple hits for the Griffins. Hughes (3-3) allowed the two Lightning runs on three hits and five walks, while striking out over the first five innings. Afterwards, sophomore Will Shaffer (Sicklerville, N.J.) and junior Jerry Mangan (Wayne, Pa.) combined for two innings of scoreless relief; the latter earned the save (2).
 
Chestnut Hill College scored a run in the first inning of game one (1-0), two in the fourth (3-0), two in the fifth (5-0), and one in the ninth to provide a dominate Bethel with a bounty of support. A Lightning error allowed the Griffins to capitalize on a leadoff single from Uzzell, 1-0. In the fourth inning, a two-out single through the middle from sophomore left fielder Michael Perugini (Tamarac, Fla.), a wild pitch, and run-scoring singles from senior designated hitter Franklin Ramirez (Reading, Pa.) and LeBeau increased the spread to 3-0. Two more Griffins scored in the next at-bat, where two-out hits from Gilham, sophomore shortstop Jared Healey (Philadelphia, Pa.), and sophomore first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) further advance Chestnut Hill College's lead to 5-0. A ninth-inning, Contoudis single to centerfield plated the Scarlet and Gold's final run of the affair, 6-0. He and Uzzell (2-for-5) were the only Griffins to record multiple hits (2-for-5). Bethel struck out three to pick up his fifth win in his last five appearances and his seventh victory overall (7-3).
 
Chestnut Hill College will conclude their 2019 regular-season home schedule and honor another impressive senior class on Thursday, April 25, when they host Goldey-Beacom College in a 3:30 p.m. CACC doubleheader.
