Concordia College (NY) Tops Chestnut Hill College In CACC Men’s Tennis Championship

13466Bronxville, N.Y. – (4/27/2019) – For the sixth time in seven seasons, #2 Chestnut Hill College squared off with #1 Concordia College (NY) today, Saturday, April 27, for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Tennis Championship. After a 6-3 win at number one doubles from freshman Tom Pitchley (London, England) and junior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia) – who also represented the Griffins on the CACC All-Tournament Team – the Clippers triumphed in the second (6-4) and third (7-6 (7-5)) flights to win the team point, 1-0. They followed with three straight singles wins to claim the league crown by a 4-0 final.

Chestnut Hill College (17-6) showed up at the Meyer Tennis Center determined to overcome their arch nemesis. A 6-3 win from Pitchley and Jorsal at number one doubles put them on the right path, but succeeding Concordia College (16-3) victories in the second flight and the third flight gave the Clippers the 13467upper hand heading to individual play. There, the proceeded to win the title match with wins in the top three singles matches. They concluded in order as Pitchley lost number one singles, 6-2, 6-4, sophomore Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) lost number two singles, 6-1, 6-4, and Jorsal lost a tight match at number three singles, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
 
Pitchley and Jorsal were joined on the CACC All-Tournament Team by Concordia College's sophomore Henry Masters (Northampton, England), freshman Maximilian Grundmann (Schwerte, Germany), sophomore Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy), and CACC Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), senior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France). With the highest grade point average (GPA) at the CACC Championship final site, Darias was recognized with the CACC Men's Tennis Top XVI Award.

13465At 17-6, Chestnut Hill College now awaits seeding in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II East Regional Championships. A selection show is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, at 8:00 p.m.
