Pitchley Prevails, Griffins Edge out Eagles

Tom Pitchley
Box Score Waterbury, Conn. – (4/3/2019) – Chestnut Hill College emerged victorious from today's highly competitive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at Post University as a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, number one singles triumph by freshman Tom Pitchley (London, England) dramatically brought the contest to a close, 4-3. Pitchley and junior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia) secured the Griffins' first point of the match with their 7-6 (7-2) victory at number one doubles; the point proved extremely valuable as the Eagles and Griffins split the remaining singles points.

Freshman Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) and sophomore Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) earned Chestnut Hill College (13-4, 4-1) their first win of the doubles round, posting a 7-6 (7-3) win in the third flight. Pitchley and Jorsal then followed with their 7-6 (7-2) victory at number three doubles earn the Griffins the team point, 1-0, and render a 7-6 (7-4) Post University win at number two doubles meaningless.

Junior Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) provided Chestnut Hill College with a 2-0 at the beginning of the individual round with his 6-3, 6-2, win at number six singles. But the Eagles quickly tied the match at 2-2 with their following wins at number four (6-1, 6-1) and number three (6-4, 6-3) singles. Adler briefly broke the stalemate with his 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, win at number five singles, 3-2, as a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, Eagle win at number two singles knotted the match once again at 3-3. Number one singles hung in the balance. There, Pitchley battled senior Jonathan Compres (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) for a brilliant 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, victory and the match-winner, 4-3.

Chestnut Hill College briefly breaks from their CACC schedule tomorrow, Sunday, April 7, when they join the women's side for a 1:00 p.m. dual match at Millersville University.
