Griffins Earn First CACC Win of the Year With 3-1 Victory Over Goldey-Beacom College

Philadelphia, Pa.  - (9/26/2019) - Chestnut Hill College took three of four sets (26-24, 22-25, 25-16, 31-29) from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Goldey-Beacom College at Sorgenti Arena. After splitting the opening two sets, the Griffins rallied to earn their first conference win of the season. Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tallied 13 kills and a .281 hitting percentage in the winning effort. 

The Griffins (4-7, 1-2) came from behind in the opening set, trailing by as many as four points and down 23-21 late. Chestnut Hill won five of the set's final six points, capped off by a service ace from freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico), to take the opener 26-24. The Lightning (4-7, 1-2) won the second 25-22 thanks to a lengthy mid-set service run, but the Griffins answered by hitting .394 in the third set to stroll to a 25-16 win. Chestnut Hill finished off the match with a back-and-forth set, denying the Lightning on five set points to finally win it, 31-29. 

Two from Goldey-Beacon finished with double figures in kills. Sophomore right side hitter Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, N.J.) tallied the game-high with 23 kills. Sophomore setter Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, Nev.) recorded 39 of the Lightning's 45 assists, while junior libero Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) tallied a game-high 19 digs. 

Kalala and senior outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) (11 kills) finished with double figures in kills for the Griffins. Junior middle hitter Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) finished with a .462 hitting percentage with seven kills. Four Griffins racked up more than 10 digs, with Byxbee leading the charge with 13. 

Chestnut Hill College will have another home CACC matchup at noon on Saturday, September 28, against Holy Family University.
