Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/28/2019) – Chestnut Hill College evened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record at 2-2 with this afternoon's 3-2 (25-23, 26-28, 25-23, 12-25, 15-8) league victory over cross-city rival Holy Family University. The Griffins triumphed in the first (25-23), third (25-23), and fifth (15-8) sets, recovering from Tiger wins in the second (28-26) and fourth (25-12) sets. Freshman setter
Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) reported her third triple-double of the season with 10 kills, 25 assists, and 10 digs, while ranking second on the Scarlet and Gold with 13.0 points. Junior outside hitter
Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Griffins with 19.0 points, providing a season-high 18 kills, three digs, and a pair of block assists.
Holy Family University (6-7, 1-2) shot out to a 9-4 lead that forced an early Chestnut Hill College (5-7, 2-2) timeout. The Tigers continued to pace the Griffins until a series of serves from senior right side
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) turned the tide, bringing the score even at 15-15. From there, the Scarlet and Gold kept a narrow margin to a 25-23 (1-0) end. But the Tigers evened the match at 1-1 with a 28-26 win in the second set. Chestnut Hill College responded with another 25-23 (2-1) win in the third set, this time coming back from a late 21-16 deficit to collect the point. Unfortunately, the Tigers would not go down without a fight as they forced a deciding set with a 25-12 (2-2) statement win in the fourth frame. In the fifth set, an opening 4-0 run set the tone for a 15-8 (3-2) Scarlet and Gold victory.
Junior outside hitter Carly Covington (Delmar, Md.) led Holy Family University with a match-high 21.5 points as she added an assist and 15 digs to 20 kills, a solo block, and a block assist. Two other Tigers recorded double digit points; senior middle hitter Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz.) (17.5 points) totaled 17 kills, three digs, and a block assist, while junior outside hitter Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md.) (12.5) supplied 11 kills, an assist, a solo block and a block assist. Sophomore setter Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa.) supplied 50 assists in addition to two aces, 14 digs, and a block assist, while senior libero Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass.) led four Tigers in double digit digs with 20.
