Griffins Leave Raider Classic After Loss to Slippery Rock

Shippensburg, Pa. - (9/7/2019) – Chestnut Hill College concluded their stay at Shippensburg University's Raider Classic with a morning match versus Slippery Rock University. The Scarlet and Gold led off the opening serve, but the Rock came back for a 25-18 win in the first set. They capitalized on the victory with succeeding wins of 25-16 and 25-19 (3-0; 25-18, 25-16, 25-19). Freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) provided 16 assists, allowing junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and junior middle hitter Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) to record eight kills apiece. Kalala also recorded a solo block and an assisted block to lead the Griffins with 9.5 points.
 
Sophomore right side Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.) provided the last kill on a 6-2 opening run for Chestnut Hill College (0-3), but Slippery Rock University (2-0) tied the match at 9-9 and separated on the backend for a 25-18 win in the first set. In the second set, the Rock gradually grew their early edge to a 25-16 win. Chestnut Hill College looked for a third-set rally as they a 6-3 lead on a Baldwin kill. But, again the Rock answered, tying the score at 6-6 and emerging from a late 18-18 stalemate for a deciding 25-19 win.
 
Freshman outside hitter Abigail Koeller (Winchester, Va.) had an impressive game with 18 kills on a .368 (18K-4E-38TA) hitting percentage, 13 digs, and two block assists. Senior setter Zoe Rivet (Twinsboro, Ohio) recorded a kill, 40 assists, an ace, eight digs, and a solo block in support. Junior defensive specialist Jalyn Willard (Columbus, Ohio) was a major contributor for the Rock as well with a kill, three assists, an ace, and 20 digs.
 
Kalala added four digs to her 9.5 points. Meanwhile, Baldwin offered an assist and a block assist in addition to her eight kills. Ramos paired her assists with three kills and 11 digs. She was one of four Griffins with double-digit digs. The others were senior outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) (12 digs), senior libero Janie Green (Hayes, Va.) (11), and freshman defensive specialist Bianca Diaz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) (10).
  
Chestnut Hill College continues their schedule on Friday, September 13, with an appearance at the Millersville University Tournament.
