Griffins Bested By Blue Hens in First Match of 2020

Box Score Wilmington, Del. – (1/26/2020) – Chestnut Hill College resumed 2019-2020 schedule today, Sunday, January 26, with an evening match at National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) member, the University of Delaware. The Blue Hens captured doubles wins in the second (6-3) and third (6-2) flights and clinched victory, 4-0, before sophomore Kai Adler (Leer, Germany) got the Griffins on the scoreboard with an injury retirement win at number five singles. The University of Delaware ended the affair by a 6-1 final with additional individual wins at number six (6-1, 6-1) and number four (6-3, 2-6, 10-7) singles.
 
The University of Delaware (3-1) secured the doubles point with back-to-back wins in the second (6-3) and third (6-2) flights; 1-0. Senior Antoine Gautier (Bordeaux, France) and junior Kiki Dagneaux (Saint-Gervasy, France) battled to the 6-3 loss at number two doubles, while Adler and sophomore Thibault Gasser (Anglet, France) suffered the 6-2 defeat at number three doubles. The top team flight, was left unfinished with senior Erik Jorsal (Mudgeeraba, Australia) and sophomore Tom Pitchley (London, England) holding a 5-4 advantage.
 
In singles play, the Blue Hens' clinching victories chronologically came in the second (6-1, 6-2), first (6-3, 6-1), and third (6-3, 6-3) flights; 4-0. Pitchley provided the Chestnut Hill College's (2-1) best defense with his effort at number one singles. Adler was leading by a 6-3 margin when he was awarded the fifth flight, which also ruined the University of Delaware shutout; 4-1. Afterwards, the Blue Hens added to their margin of victory with their wins at number six (6-1, 6-1) and number four (6-3, 2-6, 10-7) singles.
 
Chestnut Hill College resumes their spring schedule on Thursday, March 5, when they visit St. Thomas Aquinas College for a 12:00 p.m. match.
