PHILADELPHIA (01/29/2020) – Chestnut Hill College women's basketball fell just shy of its second comeback win over Georgian Court University of the season, dropping the Wednesday night Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest in Sorgenti Arena, 75-68.
The Griffins (7-13, 6-5) were powered by a game-high 21-point effort from sophomore guard
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.), as well as sophomore forward
Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.) recording her first career double-double in her first start of the year.
The Lions (5-13, 3-8) jumped out to a 14-point first quarter lead thanks to six different players registering points. The Scarlet and Gold consistently clawed its way back into the game following that opening stretch, cutting the deficit to just a single possession -- 32-30 -- heading into the half.
Chestnut Hill College snatched the lead midway through the third quarter thanks to a pair of three-pointers from Crim.
Georgian Court finished that period on an 8-0 run, however, and wouldn't relinquish the lead again down the stretch. The Griffins didn't trail by more than nine in the final 10 minutes of play, but couldn't draw closer than within a possession to drop their first game in Sorgenti Arena since January 5.
Crim finished with her fifth 20-plus point outing of the season, bringing her average up to a team-leading 13.7 points per game. Junior guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) also bolstered her double-figure average with an 18-point performance against the Lions.
Hewlett, who rounded out the Griffins' double-figure scorers on the evening, added a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the team. She also posted a team-high four assists.
Sophomore guard
Morgan Orloski (Bethlehem, Pa.) had all eight of her team's points off the bench. Making her seventh consecutive start, sophomore guard
Rachael Millan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) added five points and seven rebounds in a career-high 38 minutes of action.
Georgian Court had four players who finished in double figures, led by a 17-point outing from freshman guard Savawn Hughes (Baltimore, Md.). Freshman forward Hanna Thrainsdottir (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) grabbed a team-high 11 boards, while sophomore forward Leighanna Lister (Kutztown, Pa.) made a crucial impact with 16 points and six offensive rebounds.
Chestnut Hill College hits the road for its next two games, starting with a 1 p.m. tipoff on Saturday, February 1 against Concordia College.
