Chargers Edge Griffins in Close CACC Contest

PHILADELPHIA (1/5/2020) – Chestnut Hill College hung around with Dominican College, but could not get over the hump and jump into the lead as the Chargers earned a wire-to-wire, 66-57 victory on Sunday afternoon in Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins (3-11, 2-3) had two players finish in double figures, including a 23-point effort from sophomore guard Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.). But Dominican College (5-9, 3-2), which hit just 27 percent of its attempts from the field and was outshot by the Scarlet and Gold, did damage from the foul line – knocking down 74 percent of its attempts to earn 28 points from the charity stripe.

The Chargers got off to a quick start, opening on a 10-0 run and posting their largest lead of the game (13 points) in the first quarter. But Chestnut Hill College consistently clawed its way back into the game, pulling within a possession late in the second half and heading into the break down 30-22. Freshman guard Amber Washington (Bear, Del.) led the team in the opening two periods with five points.

While Dominican College never took over the game, the best the Griffins could do was pull within a point early in the fourth quarter. The Chargers hit 26 free throws in the second half to hold on for its third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the season.

Crim's 23 points marked her third 20-plus point outing of the season, as she's averaging a team second-best 11.9 points per game. The team's leading scorer on the season, junior guard Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.), finished with 10 points to reach double figures for the seventh time in the last eight games.

Crim also posted a season-high seven rebounds to lead the Griffins on the boards. Sophomore guard Abbey Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) tallied team-highs in assists (4) and steals (3). Making her first career start, sophomore guard Rachael Millan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) played a season-high 28 minutes and put up six points and six rebounds.

Three Chargers finished in double figures, as sophomore forward Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) produced a double-double to lead the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.), who matched Tomlinson's team-high 10 rebounds, blocked a game-high four shots.

The Griffins head on the road for a matchup at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 8 against Division I opponent Towson University.
