Newark, Del. - (2/4/2020) – Chestnut Hill College visited Wilmington University for this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tipoff. The Wildcats took advantage of a slow Griffin start, securing an 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The 11-point difference was enough for the home team to keep their distance in a 77-67 final. Sophomore guard
Lauren Crim (Warrington, Pa.) (5-of-13, .385 3PT) led three Griffins in double figures with 17 points; she and junior guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) (4-of-7, .571) combined to hit nine (9-of-20, .450) three-point baskets and rally the Scarlet and Gold within nine points, 73-64 (0:54), during the final minute of play.
Wilmington University (4-17, 4-9) jumped out to a 6-0 (7:53) lead and pushed their first-quarter advantage over Chestnut Hill College (8-14, 7-6) to as many as 13 points, 18-5 (2:05), before taking am 18-7 (1:21) into the initial break. In the second quarter, the rebounding of sophomore guard
Rachael Millan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) minimized the Wildcats continued separation. She finished the first half with team-highs in points (5) and rebounds (7), helping the Griffins keep the difference at 11 points, 30-19 (2:52), with a little less than three minutes remaining. But in that closing stretch, Wilmington University extended their halftime advantage to 18 points, 40-22 (0:32); a cushion large enough to withstand second-half Scarlet and Gold rallies that reduced the spread to 11 points, 40-29 (7:24), early in the third quarter and nine points, 73-64 (0:54), with a minute to go.
Graduate guard LaShyra Williams (Seaford, Del.) headlined Wilmington University's success with a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double. She also recorded seven assists and two steals. Three other Wildcats joined her in double figures; junior center Sabreen Muslim (Baltimore, Md.) was the leader among them with 16 points off the Wilmington University bench.
Crim complimented her perimeter shooting with six rebounds and an assist. Sebold used her four three pointers to score a dozen (12) points. She also recorded eight assists. Millan finished the affair with seven points, a team-high 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals, but freshman forward
Lindsey Lane (Havertown, Pa.) was the third Griffin to score in double figures. It was Lane's second straight double-digit scoring performance. She combined it with four rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, February 8, when they return to Sorgenti Arena to host Nyack College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
