PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (02/08/2020) – Chestnut Hill College women's basketball used a fourth-quarter takeover to upend Nyack College, 68-58, in Sorgenti Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins (9-14, 8-6) were helped along by game-high 22-point outings from junior guard
Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove, Pa.) and sophomore forward
Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.) to earn their ninth consecutive win over the Warriors (8-13, 6-8) dating back to 2012.
The Scarlet and Gold used a hot start to jump out to a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Nyack College came charging back. The Griffins stayed afloat thanks to a 15-point second quarter from Hewlett, who tallied all but two of the team's points in that period to take them into the break with a 34-31 advantage.
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with the two teams struggling for buckets and finishing the frame at a combined 14 points. The fourth quarter also got off to a slow start, as the Warriors managed to come within three points with eight minutes to go.
From there, the Griffins used a 19-7 run to put the game out of reach. Chestnut Hill College ran away with it thanks to four three-pointers from the squad. Sebold scored 12 of her team's 26 points in the quarter to power the offense.
Sebold recorded her fourth 20-plus point game of the season, bringing her scoring average up to 12.7 points per game. Hewlett's 22-point effort was a career-high, marking her seventh-double figure outing of the season. The duo combined for eight of the team's 12 three-pointers, with each hovering around a 50 percent average. Sebold also led the team with nine assists. Hewlett recorded eight rebounds and two blocks.
Sophomore forward
Rachael Millan (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) was huge on the boards for the Griffins, hauling in a team-high 10 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. Making her third consecutive start, freshman forward
Lindsey Lane (Havertown, Pa.) provided eight points and five rebounds.
Chestnut Hill College will be on the road for its next two games, starting with a clash Saturday, February 15 at 1 p.m. against Bloomfield College.
