Volleyball Team Falls to Georgian Court in Five-Set Thriller

Erika Dubosky and Mia Caporellie recorded double-doubles as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team battled perennial conference powerhouse Georgian Court University for five thrilling sets before falling to the Lions 3-2 in Lakewood, New Jersey Wednesday night.

The Griffins fall to 2-11 overall and 0-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games.  Georgian Court improves to 15-5 overall 6-3 in league play.

Dubosky notched her fifth double-double of the season 11 kills and 12 digs while Caporellie had a match-high 43 assists and a team-high 17 digs.  Henielys Ramos led the Griffins with 15 kills  and three aces while Angela April also reached double figures for kills with 11.  Dubosky also added three aces.

On the defensive side Venessa Caballero joined Dubosky and Caporellie with double-figure digs, recording 15.  April led the team with four blocks.

In the opening set, the Griffins jumped out to a 14-4 lead highlighted by three kills and two aces from Ramos and two kills apiece from Dubosky and Leah Miller.  From there the Griffin lead oscillated between eight and ten points until the lions scored three points late in the set to close within seven.  Lauren Lipinski then knocked down a kill to give the Griffins the set 25-17.

The Lions took the next two sets 25-20 and 25-21 to lead the match 2-1.   Chestnut opened the fourth set with four straight points before the Lions battled back to tie the score at 11-11 and later took and 18-17 lead.  The two teams exchanged points until Ramos recorded a kill late in the match to put the Griffins up 22-20.  Georgian court scored the next three points to pull ahead 23-22 and were within two points of winning the match before the Griffins benefited from two GCU miscues with an April kill in-between to take the set 25-23 and force a fifth and deciding set.

In the final set, the two teams exchanged points over the first dozen rallies before three straight GCU points broke the deadlock and gave the Lions a 9-6 lead.  The Griffins never pulled any closer than two the rest of the way as Georgian Court took the fifth set 15-12.

Chestnut Hill returns to action on Friday, October 15, 2021 when they travel north to face Caldwell University for a CACC divisional cross-over match.  Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
