Henielys Ramos had a career night on the volleyball court as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team defeated host Caldwell University 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-21, 26-24) to earn their first Central Atlantic collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the season at the Newman Center in Caldwell, New Jersey.
The Griffins improve to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in CACC games. Caldwell falls to 2-13 overall and 2-6 in league play.
Ramos recorded a career-high 21 kills and added a career-high 19 digs for her second double-double of season. Nine of those kills came in the fourth and deciding set, including the final three of the set as the Griffins rallied to win the match.Â
Erika Dubosky and
Mia Caporellie also recorded double-doubles on the night.  Dubosky had 11 kills and 20 digs to notch her third consecutive double-double and sixth of the season. Caporellie had a career high 48 assists while adding 13 digs and four aces, giving her nine double-doubles on the season.Â
Lauren Lipinski led the team with a season-high five aces while also notching a season-high 12 kills.
Defensively
Venessa Caballero led Chestnut Hill with 26 digs, joining four other teammates in double figures for digs (Ramos, Dubosky, Caporellie and
Mikayla Grimes who had ten).
The Griffins jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set highlighted by three kills from Ramos. The Cougars then pounced with an 11-3 run to turn the momentum and take a 12-10 lead. A kill from
Angela April tied the score back at 12 and the two teams exchanged points over the next several rallies before the Griffins scored three straight to take a 19-16 lead. Again, the Cougars rallied scoring five of the next six points to retake the lead 21-20 and held on to win the opening set 25-23.
Tied at 10-10 in the second set, Chestnut hill ran off four straight points to take command of the game 14-10. Caldwell scored three of the next four points to cut the lead in half 15-13 before the Griffins ran of eight straight points with Lipinski serving to push the lead to 23-13. Three of the eight points came via service aces from Lipinski. Dubosky closed out the set with a kill to even the match at 1-1.
The third set had a similar start to the second with both teams exchanging points early. Tied at 7-7, the Griffins scored seven straight points to lead 14-7, their biggest lead of the set. Caldwell rallied to close withing three a total of three times and cut the Griffin lead to two late 23-21 before the Griffins closed out the set with two straight points, the last coming on a Grimes service ace.
Caldwell jumped out to an early three-point lead 8-5 in the fourth set. The Griffins however went on a seven-point run again to take a 14-9. Caldwell countered with an 11-3 spurt to regain control for the moment 20-17. Three rallies later, Lipinski's fifth ace of the game tied the score at 20-20. Kills from Lipinski and Ramos followed and the Griffins were closing in on the win, leading 22-20. Caldwell rallied however to retake the lead 24-23 and were just one point away from forcing a fifth and deciding set when Ramos went to work, recording three straight kills to give the Griffins a 26-24 win in the set and a 3-1 match victory.
Chestnut Hill College is back in action on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 when they host Bloomsburg University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
