Game Recap: Sprint Football |

Rain and Cornell put a Damper on Senior Day for Chestnut Hill Sprint Football

Heavy rains and wind turned the field at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania into a quagmire as Friday evenings sprint football contest between Cornell University and Chestnut Hill College progressed, making the passing game almost non-existent and points hard to come by.  The Cornell squad produced produced the only points of the game in the first quarter as they hung on to win 6-0, putting a damper on the Griffins' senor night game and final home contest of 2021.

The Griffins fall to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in CSFL South games.   Cornell improves to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in CSFL South contests.

A bad snap on a Griffin punt attempt gave Cornell a big advantage as they gained possession just 10 yards away from a touchdown.  Three plays later Big Red quarterback Xavier Martinez ran the ball in from three yards out for a touchdown.  A fake PAT attempt failed and Cornell had the early 6-0 lead, one that would hold up for the rest of the game.

Anthony Broderick led the Griffins' running game with 57 yards rushing.  As a team the Griffins totaled 123 net yards rushing while Cornell finished the game with 202.   The Griffins attempted just one pass while Cornell completed just one pass for an eight yard gain.

Hank Gallacher recorded 172 yards on punts, including a 64 yard effort in the fourth quarter.  The 64 yard punt ties a school record for longest punt set back in 2018 by Dante Fuchs against the University of Pennsylvania.

The Chestnut Hill sprint Football Team returns to action on Saturday, November 6, 2021 when they travel to New York to take on Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
