West Chester University used a 16-6 run midway through the second half to break open a close game as they handed the Chestnut Hill College men's Basketball team a 97-80 loss Tuesday night at the Hollinger Field House in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins fall to 1-4 with the loss. West Chester improves to 4-0.
For the second time this season, a pair fo Griffin players scored 20 or more points with
Amir Warrick scoring 23 and
Nigel Haughton adding 22. Warrick also grabbed ten rebounds to notch his first double-double of the season.
Conor Regan added ten points to round out the Chestnut Hill double figure scorers.Â
MJ Iraldi dished out a team-high five assists, while Haughton added five steals.
A 41-41 halftime tie quickly turned into a seven-point advantage for the Golden Rams just four minutes into the half but the Griffins showed resilience and did not fold, battling back to take a 57-56 lead with 12:50 remaining. The Griffins still led by one 60-59 at the 11:58 mark when the Golden Rams' offense exploded with six straight points to reclaim the lead and go up by five. Warrick followed with a basket and the Golden Rams countered with a 10-4 uprising, completing a 16-6 run over a 5:27 span to lead 75-64 with 6:30 remaining. The Griffins got as close as seven on two occasions before the Golden Rams expanded their lead back into double digits for good with a pair of free throws at the 2:42 mark, making the score 84-74. West Chester finished the game on a 13-4 run, making the final score 97-80.
West Chester placed four players in double figures led by Matt Dade's 23 points/ Josh Samac added 21 while Kyle McGee and Jamil Manigo added 16 and 12 points respectively. McGee (14 rebounds) and Dade (10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles. McGee also led all players with seven assists..
The Chestnut Hill Men's Basketball Team returns to action on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 when they open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play at Holy Family University. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
