The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team placed six players in double figures as they cruised to an 82-59 win over Mercy College Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena.
The win was the Griffins fourth in a row, upping their record to 5-4. Mercy remains winless at 0-8.
Nigel Haughton led Chestnut Hill with 16 points (5-9 FG, 2-5 3FG 4-4 FT) and filled out the stat sheet nicely with six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block. Â Â
David Erebor added 13 points (4-6 FG, 5-7 FT) and a team high nine rebounds along with a steal.Â
MJ Iraldi, Amir Warrick and
James Rider IV each scored 11 points. Rider was 4-5 from the field with a three-point basket and two free throws while Warrick added six rebounds.Â
Trevonn Pitts rounded out the double figure scorers for the Griffins with ten points. Pitts also had a team-high three steals.
The Griffins scored the first 15 points of the game and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire. The Mavericks never got closer than 11 in the first half 33-22 with 3:17 left. A free throw from Pitts and two more from Erebor rounded out the first half scoring as the Griffins led 36-24 at the break.
Chestnut Hill opened the second half with a 15-9 run to lead 51-33 and the Mavericks never came any closer than 12 the rest of the way. Haughton's two free throws at the 4:52 mark put the Griffins ahead by 20, 70-50 and the Griffins eventually pushed their lead as high as 23, 80-57 following a
Lucas Dunn layup. Following a Maverick basket,
Ebone Junior rounded out the scoring with a layup with just under 15 seconds left to provide the final 23-point margin of victory 82-59.
Brandon Wilson led the Mavericks with 17 points while Elijah Mitchell chipped in 15 points and a team-high five rebounds and six assists.
The Griffins shot 50% for the game (31-62) while holding the Mavericks to just 37.7% shooting from the field (23-60). Chestnut Hill was slightly better from the free throw line (15-19, 78.9% to 10-13, 76.9%) and outrebounded Mercy 45-27.
The Griffins are off for final exams until December 19 when they travel to Connecticut to take on the University of New Haven. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.Â
