Griffins Outrun Lions for 13-9 Road Win

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – (3/13/2021) – Chestnut Hill College scored eight unanswered goals in the first 19 minutes of today's road contest and eventually disposed of Molloy College by a 13-9 final. Junior attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.), senior attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia), and senior midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) scored three goals apiece to lead the Griffins; Rees added three helpers to his hattrick to match freshman attack Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.) (2 goals, 4 assists) for a team-high six points.

Revak got the ball rolling with an unassisted score at 12:51 of the opening frame, 1-0. Rees (2-0, 11:55) and senior attack Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) (3-0, 10:28) scored next two goals for Chestnut Hill College (2-1), who also enjoyed a Melnick goal (6-0, 1:11) in between a three from Howell (8:58, 5:59, 11:12 2QTR). His scores carried over to the second quarter where sophomore attack Nate Matthews (Rancho Murieta, Calif.) goal pushed the Scarlet and Gold lead to 8-0.

But Molloy College (1-3) got back into the contest with a seven-goal run that bled into the second half, 8-7 (14:00, 3 QTR). A Melnick-Rees connection with 11:37 remaining in the third quarter was welcomed relief for Chestnut Hill College, who was not able to deter the Lions' rally until Revak (13:49, 11:46) bookended a Melnick goal (13:18) at the start of the fourth quarter, 12-8 (11:46). A late trade of tallies left the final at 13-9.

Senior midfielder Nick Del Giorno (Floral Park, N.Y.) led Molloy College with three goals on nine shots, and an assist. Two other Lions recorded at least two goals, the better was freshman attack Jason Rebaudo (Seaford, N.Y.) with an additional five ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Adam Hyman (Coram, N.Y.) recorded a dozen (12) saves and a pair of ground balls in the loss (1-2).

Howell added an assist and a ground ball to his three scores. Rees added two ground balls to his six-point performance, while Melnick offered two ground balls and a caused turnover in addition to his. Revak recovered five ground balls, only to be outdone by graduate faceoff Zachary Ornstein (Howell, N.J.), who won 22-of-24 (.917) in the circle and secured 17 ground balls. In goal, junior goalkeeper Jake Miller (Castle Rock, Colo.) totaled 15 saves and three ground balls in the win (2-1).

Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 on Saturday, March 27, when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in a 11:00 a.m. contest.
