Fourth Quarter Goals Push Bobcats Past Griffins

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/20/2021) – The final 15 minutes was all that mattered in this evening's contest as Chestnut Hill College and #19 Frostburg State University entered the final quarter of play knotted at 6-6. In the fourth quarter, junior attack J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) took advantage on a man-up opportunity, 7-6 (13:15), before a closing 4-1 Bobcat run led the final in the visitor's favor, 10-8. Howell led the Scarlet and Gold with six points (3 goals, 3 assists) and a ground ball. Senior midfielder Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) offered thee goals, while junior goalkeeper Jake Miller (Castle Rock, Colo.) totaled seven saves in the loss (2-2).

Chestnut Hill College (2-2) came out strong with a man-up connection between senior attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Howell (1-0, 10:33) and a pair of Revak goals (9:34, 5:39) putting the Griffins up 3-0. Frostburg State University (3-0) managed to trim the Scarlet and Gold lead to 3-1 by the end of the opening frame, but Howell found freshman attack Jackson Melnick (Milford, Pa.) (4-1, 14:41) and junior midfielder Jack Clyne (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) (5-1, 10:33) to put the Griffins up 5-1 with 10:33 remaining in the second quarter. Unfortunately, late Bobcat tallies reduced the halftime spread to 5-3; a measure that was further cut to zero by a 3-1 third-quarter swing, 6-6. In the fourth quarter, Chestnut Hill College capitalized on an early Frostburg State University penalty with a Melnick-Howell connection, 7-6 (13:15). After two Bobcat goals, Howell made Scarlet and Gold history with his 82nd career assist finding Revak to tie the contest at 8-8 with 5:04 (Revak) remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold celebration was short-lived as the Bobcats outran the Griffins to a 10-8 conclusion.

Graduate attack Paul Ruppert (Severna Park, Md.) led the Bobcats with three points (2 goals, 1 assist) and a ground ball. Sophomore midfielder Tanner Donaldson (St. Mary's City, Md.) match Ruppert's two goals and recovered a ground ball, while graduate Jack Marks (York, Pa.) recorded 17 saves and two ground balls in the win (3-0).

Graduate faceoff Zachary Ornstein (Howell, N.J.) won 12-of-20 (.600) in the circle, recovered seven ground balls and caused a turnover to help Howell and Revak spur the Griffin offense. Melnick played a major role as well with two points (1 goal, 1 assist), four ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Chestnut Hill College returns to Victory Field #1 next Saturday, March 27, when they host Roberts Wesleyan College in a 11:00 a.m. contest.
