Philadelphia, Pa. - (3/23/2021) – Chestnut Hill College recorded their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the season with today's 5-2 victory over
Thomas Jefferson University. The Griffins secured the doubles point with wins in the third (6-1) and first (7-5) team flights and later completed their victory with a 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-3, number six singles win from junior
Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.).
Vassalluzzo and sophomore
Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain) were the first to finish their doubles match as they took the number three doubles by a 6-1 measure. Thomas Jefferson University (2-2, 1-2) hoped to steal the team point with their 6-4 win at number two doubles, but Chestnut Hill College (1-4, 1-2) prevailed thanks to a 7-5 number-one doubles win from freshmen
Nele Haag (Tauberbischofsheim, Germany) and
Alani Naje Connor (Mount Vernon, N.Y.).
In singles, the Scarlet and Gold added to their 1-0 lead with wins in the first (6-0, retired) and second (6-0, 6-4) singles flights; Garcia Arguelles and Haag respectively scored the Griffin points, 3-0. Unfortunately, the Chestnut Hill College victory was delayed with Jefferson wins in the fourth (6-3, 6-2) and fifth (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) singles requiring Vassalluzzo's match-clinching win in the sixth flight. The match concluded with Haag taking number three singles, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Sunday, March 28, when they visit Dominican College for a 12:00 p.m.
