Griffins and Lightning Complete CACC Set With Twin Bill at Hostelley Field

North Wales, Pa. - (3/30/2021) – Chestnut Hill College wrapped up their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) series with Goldey-Beacom College with today's doubleheader at Hostelley Field. The Lightning won both ends of the twin bill, using a fortunate bounce and a single through the middle to score the opener's game-winning run in the seventh inning, 4-3, and outscoring the Griffins late in a 7-2 game-two final. Senior second baseman Patrick Meenan (Oreland, Pa.) knocked in a pair of runs in the first inning of game two; he finished the day 2-for-6 with three runs-batted-in (RBI).

Goldey-Beacom College (4-0, 3-0) used a one-out double, a wild pitch, and a ground out to short to score the first game of the CACC doubleheader, 1-0. They added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, 3-0, only for Chestnut Hill College (3-7, 0-3) to erase their additional progress with two runs in the bottom of the frame; senior shortstop Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) reached on an error at third base and eventually scored after a pair of wild pitches, a walk and a steal from junior catch Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.), and a poorly played ball off the bat of junior first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.), 3-1, before Meenan sacrificed home the Griffins second run, 3-2. The Scarlet and Gold tied the contest in the fifth inning as Uzzell drew a two-out walk on the Lightning's reliever and scored soon after on a Barletta double to deep centerfield, 3-3. After a scoreless sixth, Goldey-Beacom College plated the winning run in the top of the seventh, using a bad-hop double and a single back through the box to cycle the deciding tally, 4-3.

Barletta (1-for-2, 1BB, 1R, 1RBI), freshman right fielder Anthony Coombs (Bridgeton, N.J.) (1-for-4), and sophomore left fielder Corbin Dunnuck (Mohnton, Pa.) (1-for-3) were responsible for the three Scarlet and Gold hits. At the backend of the bullpen, sophomore Dan Rockenbach (Holland, Pa.) (2.0IP, 2H, 1B, 2K) and junior pitcher Pat Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.) (1.0IP, 1BB, 2K) combined for three innings of scoreless baseball (3.0IP, 2H, 2BB, 4K).

In game two, Chestnut Hill College took a 2-0 in the first inning with a beaning of Uzzell, a Barletta bunt-single, a botched pickoff play, and a two-run, two-out single from Meenan. Unfortunately, Goldey-Beacom College tied the contest in the two runs in the top of the third inning, 2-2, and took the lead for good in the fifth inning thanks to a leadoff triple and a one-out sacrifice fly, 3-2. Afterwards, they added insurance runs in the sixth, 6-2, and seventh innings, 7-2. Meenan was 2-for-3, recording his second hit with a leadoff single to third in the fifth inning. Junior Billy Bethel (Yardley, Pa.) was solid in the loss (1-1); 5.0 innings pitched, three strike outs, and one earned run on three hits and three walks.

Waiting a day due to a bad forecast, Chestnut Hill College will next host Bloomfield College in a 1:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader on Friday, April 2.
