Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/8/2021) – More than a week removed from their last contest, Chestnut Hill College visited local Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Thomas Jefferson University of this afternoon's league contest. Offense was in no shortage at Alumni Field as the Rams and Griffins totaled 31 hits and 36 runs in the single, nine-inning affair. Unfortunately, the spread went in the home team's favor as Jefferson University claimed the contest by a 24-12 final. Five Griffins recorded at least two hits, sophomore designated hitter Corbin Dunnuck (Mohnton, Pa.) (2-for-4, 2B, 1R, 3RBI) was chief among them with three runs-batted-in (RBI).
Jefferson (8-4, 5-1) scored nine runs in the bottom of the first and three runs in the second inning to own a 12-0 advantage before Chestnut Hill College (3-8, 0-4) put their first run on the scoreboard. It came in the top of the third inning with a leadoff walk to freshman shortstop Nick Delacruz (South Brunswick, N.J.), a one-out single from freshman catcher Josh Polon (Bridgewater, N.J.), and a single to short from senior second baseman Ameer Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.), 12-1. Unfortunately, the Rams scored twice in the bottom of the frame, 14-1, and outscored the Griffins 4-2 in the fourth inning and 3-1 in the fifth inning, 21-4, before the Scarlet and Gold won the sixth inning by an 8-3 measure; still, the separation was enough to end the early, 24-12.
Uzzell (2-for-4, 2B, 2R, 2RBI), junior first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) (2-for-3, R, 2RBI), Delacruz (2-for-3, 2B, 3R, 2RBI), senior third baseman Thomas Spratt (Doylestown, Pa.) (2-for-3, R, RBI), and Dunnuck each recorded two hits.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, April 10, when they visit Felician University for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
