Chestnut Hill College Loses Pair at Felician University As Golden Falcons Walk-Off with Game Two

Lyndhurst, N.J. - (4/10/2021) – Chestnut Hill College looked to split this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Felician University with eight runs in their first four at-bats of game two, but they still needed a score to force the home team to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Golden Falcons scored eight ties in the sixth inning. In the end, Felician University walked off with a 10-9 victory thanks to a lead-off triple, two intentional walks, and a single to right field. They won the opener 12-5.

Felician University (8-10, 6-2) scored three runs in their first two at-bats of the afternoon, leaving Chestnut Hill College (3-10, 0-6) to cut into an early 3-0 deficit with two runs in the third inning. There a one-out walk to freshman left fielder Zach Ahmed (Las Vegas, Nev.), a Golden Falcon error, a wild pitch, a ground out, a Golden Falcon error at third base, 3-1, and a single up the middle from junior first baseman Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) did the damage, 3-2. Unfortunately, the effort was wiped clean with four Golden Falcon runs in the fourth inning, 7-2, another in the fifth inning, 8-4, and four more in the sixth inning, 12-4. The Griffins' only reprise was a pair of error aided runs in the fifth inning and a run-scoring triple from junior catcher Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) in the seventh inning, 12-5.

In game two, Chestnut Hill College staked an 8-0 lead after their first four at-bats. Sacrifice flies from Dietz and freshman right fielder Anthony Coombs (Bridgeton, N.J.) gave the Scarlet and Gold a 2-0 lead in the first inning. A triple from freshman shortstop Nick Delacruz (South Brunswick, N.J.), an Ahmed ground out, and an inside-the-park home run from senior second baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) added three runs in the second inning, 5-0. And base hits from Barletta and Dietz made it 8-0 in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, the Griffins' lead took a hit in the bottom of the fourth inning, 8-1, and melted after the Golden Falcons' eight-run sixth, 9-8. The home team was forced to bat in the bottom of the seventh after a leadoff single from Barletta, a stolen base, a ground out, and a single up the middle from sophomore designated hitter Corbin Dunnuck (Mohnton, Pa.), 9-9. Again, the effort was all for naught as Felician University walked off out recording a seventh-inning out, 10-9.

Barletta was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs, a stolen base, and two runs-batted-in (RBI). Dietz (1-for-3, 2 RBI) also knocked in two runs, while Uzzell (1-for-3, BB, 3B, 2 R, RBI) and Delacruz (2-for-3, 3B, 2 R, RBI) each knocked in one run and scored twice. Junior Thomas Hughes (Phoenixville, Pa.) offered a solid start; he allowed one run on four hits and four walks, while striking out five in five innings.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Monday, April 12, when they host Thomas Jefferson University on a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
