Griffins Vanquish Devils for Second CACC Win

Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/12/2021) – After taking the doubles point with victories in the second (6-3) and first (6-4) flights, Chestnut Hill College followed through on their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over the University of the Sciences (USciences) with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, number-two singles from freshman Nele Haag (Tauberbischofsheim, Germany). Sophomore Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain) and freshman Annika Wise also recorded singles points in the 4-3 win over USciences, respectively winning the first (7-5, 6-3) and third (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) individual flights.

Wise and fellow freshman Lottie Allin (Darby, England) combined for the first Chestnut Hill College (2-5, 2-3) win, taking number two doubles by a 6-3 final. The Scarlet and Gold won the doubles point soon after with Haag and freshman Alani Naje Connor (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) securing the first flight, 6-4. USciences (2-2, 2-2) won the third flight in vain, 7-6 (7-4).

The Devils evened the match at the start of singles play, 1-1, with their 6-2, 6-2, victory at number six singles. It knotted again, 2-2, after Garcia Arguelles' 7-5, 6-3, won number one singles and USciences won number four singles, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. The match was decided in the Scarlet and Gold's favor with back-to-back wins from Wise and Haag, 4-2, again leaving the concluding Devil win of no consequence, 4-3.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, April 13 as they visit Thomas Jefferson University for a 3:00 p.m. match.
