Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/29/2021) – With the completion of regular season schedules,
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Commissioner Dan Mara is pleased to announce the field for the
2021 CACC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. Concordia College (NY) serves as the top seed and therefore, will host the league's title match on Sunday, May 2 (11:00 a.m.). #2 Chestnut Hill College will host #3 Thomas Jefferson University (Jefferson) in a noon (12:00 p.m.) CACC Semifinal match on Friday, April 30. The league's penultimate match will take place at Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center due to concern for high wind velocity in the Philadelphia-area.
Chestnut Hill College (6-4, 5-3) and Jefferson (6-6, 4-4) split their CACC regular-season meetings with the Rams winning the March-30 match by a 4-3 edge and the Griffins getting revenge with a 4-3 win in the April-18 contest.
In the first match, the Rams used a 6-4 number two doubles win to gain the upper hand on the short-handed Griffins; Jefferson built on the doubles point with the necessary singles wins in the sixth (default), second (2-6, 6-2, 6-1), and fifth (6-3, 6-3) individual flights. Freshmen,
João Sousa (Pontevedra, Spain) and
Domagoj Dugandzic (Stuttgart, Germany) both contributed a pair of wins to the Chestnut Hill College cause; the duo combined for a 6-4 win in the number two doubles flight before separating for respective singles points in the third (6-3, 6-1) and fourth (6-2, 7-6 (14-12)) flights.
The second match saw the Scarlet and Gold recovered from a doubles loss with singles wins in the first (6-4, 6-3), third (6-2, 6-1), and – eventually - fifth (6-3, 6-3) and sixth (6-3, 7-5) flights; Dugandzic and fellow freshman
Mark Gladkyy (Franklinville, N.J.) respectively delivered the match-winners.
