Griffins Complete Season Sweep of Lions with 3-0 victory.

Henielys Ramos and Mikayla Grimes combined for 30 kills as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team completed a season sweep of Georgian Court University with a 3-0 win Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena.

The win and subsequent season sweep marks the first time in program history that the Griffins have swept a season series from Georgian Court winning the three games via scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18. The Griffins improve to 10-10 overall and 6-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Lions fall to 7-13 overall and 3-6 in league play.

Grimes led all players with 16 kills with just three errors in the match for a .542 attack percentage (16-3-24).   Ramos had 14 kills and two errors for an attack percentage of .414 (14-2-29).  She also recorded two aces, the first of which was the 100th of her career, becoming the ninth player in program history with 100 or more services aces for their career.  Erika Dubosky led all players with four aces.

Mia Caporellie recorded 34 assists setting the Griffins offense. 

On defense Caporellie led all players with nine digs with Torrin Kelley adding eight.  Kathryn Hanley had three blocks while Angela April and Ramos had two apiece.

The Griffins jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set with Ramos recording her 100th ace and Grimes recording four kills in the early run.  The Lions closed within three with a 6-3 run but the Griffins countered with a 7-2 spurt to lead 17-9.  Georgian Court would come as close as six before scoring the final two points to win 25-16.

Georgian Court jumped out to a 7-5 lead before the Griffins rattled off six straight points to take control in the second set 11-7.  Dubosky had three aces during the run and Ramos two kills.  Chestnut Hill continued to expand their lead as they pulled away to win 25-15.  The Griffins finished the set with 17 total kills out of 22 attacks all without an error for a .714 attack percentage.

The Lions again had an early lead in the third set a seven-point run by the Griffins with April serving again put the Griffins in the driver's seat with a 10-5 lead.  The run was part of a 14-1 uprising as the Griffins took a 17-6 lead following a Caporellie service ace. Georgian court followed with an 11-4 spurt to close within four 21-17.  Grimes followed with a kill and then delivered an ace to bring the Griffins within two points of winning the match.  Two Lion attack errors provided the final two points as the Griffins completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set.

The Griffins finished with 44 kills to GCU's 21 while committing just ten errors to finish with a .430 attack percentage (44-10-79).  Chestnut Hill had ten aces to Georgian's five and finished with four more digs 26-22.

Nylene Mateo led Georgian Court with ten kills.

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Thursday, October 13, 2022, when they host first place Holy Family University at Sorgenti Arena.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
