Football Squad Defeated by Caldwell

The Chestnut Hill College Football team returned home for their fourth game of the season, facing  Caldwell University  Saturday afternoon at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium in Conshohocken, falling to the Cougars 28-6.

The Griffins fall to 0-4 with the loss while Caldwell improves to 3-1.

Caldwell limited the Griffins to just 157 yards of total offense, much of which came from the passing game as Anthony Cancellaire completed 11 of 20 passes for 72 yards ands C.J. Small added 53 yards, completing eight of 14 passes, including one touchdown.

The Griffins lone score came in the fourth quarter, putting together a 15-play drive to cover 63 yards with Xavier Hendricks catching a five yard pass from Small to make the score 21-6.  Hendricks finished the game with eight catches for 47 yards to lead the team.

Caldwell struck first, taking advantage of a Griffin turnover deep in their own end, leaving the Cougars on the Chestnut Hill 11-yard line.  Two plays later, the Cougars had a 7-0 lead on Donovan Swasey's nine yard run.

Swasey broke free for his second touchdown in the second quarter, a 39-yard run to put the Cougars up 14-0.  He scored again in the third quarter, this time on a 25-yard reception  from Caldwell quarterback Frank DeMaio.

DeMaio tossed his second touchdown pass with 4:18 left in the fourth quarter, a 16-yard pass to Nadir Orsini with 4:18 remaining.

Defensively Lex Williams and Jonathan Havrilak led the team with ten and nine tackles respectively.  Havrilak and Goldsmith also recorded sacks on the afternoon.  Tyheem Bailey grabbed the Griffins' first interception of the season in the second quarter.

The Griffins return to action on Friday, October 21, 2022 when they travel to face Cornell University.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
