The Chestnut Hill College Football team suffered a tough loss on the road as Cornell University handed the Griffins a 28-14 loss Friday night at Schoellkopf field in Ithaca, New York.

The Griffins fall to 0-5 on the season while Cornell improves to 1-4.

CHC quarterback C.J. Small threw for 90 yards on seven completions, including a late touchdown toss to Schneider Juste who finished with three catches for 31 yards.  Ira Baine led the ground game with 44 yards rushing and one touchdown.  Anthony Cancellare added 60 yards in the air with six completions.

On the defensive side Ryan Jakeman and Jonathan Oister had seven tackles apiece while on special teams, Jason Chedester had a 63-yard punt, the second longest in program history behind a 64-yard effort by Hank Gallacher last season against this same Cornell squad.

Cornell took advantage of two Griffin turnovers, scoring twice following a CHC fumble deep in their own territory.  A sack of Small late in the second quarter led to a forced fumble and recovery by Cornell on the Griffins 22-yard line.  Four plays later the Big Red squad had a 7-0 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the half.

In the third quarter the Big Red squad scored on their first two possessions the second again coming on a fumble, this time by Zyier Pannell and again at the Griffins 22-yard line.  Three plays later Cornell scored at had a 21-0 lead.

Following the score, the Griffins put together a sustained drive of 70 yards, taking advantage of three Cornell penalties along the way.  Small had a 27-yard completion to Blaec Sanders early on to get into Big Red territory. Personal foul and pass interference penalties added 30 more yards to the drive and put the ball on Cornell's 13-yard line.  Following a holding penalty on the Griffins which brought up a first-and-20 situation, Cornell was called for roughing the passer moving the ball to the 11-yard line where Baine then ran it in for the score.  Xavier Hendricks added the extra point to make the score 21-7.

Cornell quarterback Xavier Martinez threw his third touchdown pass of the night to open the fourth quarter, giving the home squad a 28-7 lead.

Small threw for 39 yards on the Griffins final drive of the game, with Juste catching a four-yard pass for the score with just 55 seconds remaining.  Hendricks added the extra point making the final score 28-14.
