Three players recorded double-doubles as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Volleyball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Wilmington University Wednesday night at Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia,
The win, the Griffins' first over the Wildcats since 2016, improved the Griffins record to 11-12 overall and 7-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Wildcats fall to 11-13 overall and 8-4 in league play.
The Griffins opened the match with a marathon 29-27 win to take a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats roared back with a dominant 25-13 win in the second set evening the match at 1-1. Chestnut Hill then took the next two sets 25-19 and 25-23 to complete the 3-1 win.
Henielys Ramos led all players with 20 kills and added 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.Â
Mikayla Grimes had 15 kills and added 14 digs for her eighth double-double this season.Â
Erika Dubosky also had a double-double with ten kills and a career high 23 digs.Â
Angela April had four service aces to lead all players.
Setting the offensive attack was
Mia Caporellie who recorded a season-high 53 assists, the most ever by a Griffins player in a four-set match.
In addition to the three attackers reaching double figures for digs, libero
Torrin Kelley added 19 to the Griffins season-high team total of 80. April led the team with four blocks.
The Griffins battled from four points down late in the first set, 22-18 to tie the score at 22-22. Chestnut Hill faced set point three times late in the match only to re-tie the score with a kill or take advantage of a Wildcat error as they did in the final three rallies. Trailing 27-26, a service error by Wilmington tied the score at 27-27.  Ramos followed with a kill and the Wildcats made an attack error on the next rally ot give the Griffins the set 29-27.
Wilmington scored the first six points in the second set and never looked back as they took the second set 25-13 to swing momentum back their way.
The momentum was still on the Wildcats' side, scoring three of the first four points in the third set before the Griffins rallied to take an early 6-5 lead on an April ace. The Griffins expanded their lead to 14-8 following kills by Ramos and Grimes and later 23-13 after a kill from
Kathryn Hanley. Wilmington went on a 6-1 run before Ramos shut the door with a kill to end the set, 25-19.
Six ties and two lead changes highlighted the opening half of the final set before an 8-1 run by the Griffins broke a 13-13 tie and put the home team in control 21-14. A kill from Ramos brought the Griffins to match point 24-17 but the Wildcats held off six match points to pull within one 24-23 before Hanley sealed the deal with a kill to win the set 25-23 and the match, 3-1.
The Chestnut Hill college women's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, October 22, 2022, when they travel to take on Felician University in Rutherford, New Jersey.
