Game Recap: Sprint Football |

Defense Solid as Griffins Fall to Quakers 9-6

The Chestnut Hill College football team held the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team to just nine points Friday night but the Griffins offense was stymied against the Quaker defense as the Griffins fell 9-6 at Franklin field in Philadelphia.

The Griffins fall to 0-3 on the season while Penn improves to 2-2.

Quarterback Anthony Cancellaire led the Griffins offense, throwing for 105 yards on ten completions and one touchdown.  Xavier Hendricks caught three passes including a 12 yard catch for a touchdown.  Schneider Juste led the team with four catches.  On the ground Anthony Broderick led the Griffins with 38 yards rushing.

Defensively, Jonathan Havrilak led the team with eight tackles including five for loss.  He also had three sacks on the night, tying the school record for most sacks in a game.   As a unit the Griffins defense recorded seven sacks in the game and 12 tackles for loss while holding the quakers to just 15 yards net rushing and their lowest point total in the history of the series between the two teams.

Penn scored a field goal in the first quarter and added a touchdown in the third to take a 9-0 lead.

The Griffins began the fourth quarter with a turnover giving the Quakers the ball but held Penn to just four plays, and forced a fumble that was recovered by Cam Goldsmith at the Penn 15-yard line.  A holding penalty pushed the Griffins back ten yards before Cancellaire rushed for 13 yards and followed with a pass to Hendricks for the touchdown.  CHC's extra point attempt was blocked.

A second forced fumble recovered by the Griffins gave Chestnut Hill another chance to score with just 4:52 remaining.  The Griffins drove 47 yards before the drive stalled and they were forced to turnover the ball on downs at the Penn 28 with just 57 seconds remaining.  Penn was able to run out the clock to preserve the win.

The Chestnut Hill College Sprint football team returns to action on Saturday, October 15, 2022 when they host Caldwell university at AA Garthwaite Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
