Bri Rider came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points while
Abbey Spratt added a season-high 11 points but the Chestnut Hill college women's basketball again struggled in the second half as holy Family University rallied from an eight point halftime deficit to defeat the Griffins 57-53 Thursday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins drop to 5-6 with the loss and 0-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Chestnut Hill also falls to 0-4 at home this season.  The Tigers improve to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Rider connected on five of 12 shots from the field including three three-point baskets. The sophomore guard also had five rebounds and two assists. Spratt meanwhile was 4-for-7 from the field with a three-point basket along with a team high three assists and two steals.
Morgan Sterner tied Spratt for team high assist honors with three while adding seven points.
Emily Chmiel led the team with six rebounds while
Kaitlyn Carter had four steals and five rebounds while
Leah Miller also grabbed five boards.
Skyler Searfoss was the only player in double figures for the Tigers with 13 points with four other players scoring between seven and ten points. Moe Moore had six rebounds while Lindsay Tretter had six assists.
After making eight field goals in the first quarter (8-1, 44.4%), the Griffins managed just three field goals in each of the subsequent three quarters as they continue to struggle with their shooting efforts. Chestnut Hill shot just 27.4% for the game (17-62). The tigers meanwhile connected on 24 of 56 shots from the field (42.9%) and had at least six field goals in each of the final three quarters, including a 53.8% (7-13) effort in the fourth quarter when they took their largest lead of the game (nine points, 49-40).
The Griffins grabbed 19 rebounds off the offensive glass and outrebounded the Tigers 42-40 overall but were unable to convert their second chances to points with just six second chance points. Both teams struggled from the free throw line with the Griffins making just ten of 20 shots (50%) and the Tigers, five of 11 (45.5%).
The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team is back in action on Saturday, December 31 when they travel to face Bloomfield college in Bloomfield New Jersey. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
