Three players scored in double figures as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team survived an early offensive charge from Gwynedd Mercy University to pull away with a 67-50 win Wednesday evening at Sorgenti Arena in the Battle of the Griffins
In earning their second win in as many nights Chestnut Hill improved to 4-6 while Gwynedd Mercy fell to 2-6.
Noah Charles (5-9 FG) and
Conor Regan (6-11 FG) had 14 points apiece to lead the Griffins while
Amir Warrick (5-9 FG) added 12 points.Â
Nigel Haughton added nine points while dishing out a game high eight assists.Â
Trevonn Pitts also scored nine points coming off the bench. Haughton and Regan grabbed nine and eight rebounds respectively.
Gwynedd Mercy opened the game with a 14-4 run over the first six minutes of action. CHC countered with a 15-1 run to regain the momentum and take a 19-15 lead . GMU rallied to tie the game at 22-22 before a free throw from Warrick and three-point baskets from Haughton and
Lucas Dunn pushed CHC's lead to seven 29-22, a margin they maintained as the half came to a close with the home team ahead 37-30.
A 15-3 run early in the second half put the Chestnut Hill in command 53-36. Regan added a three-point basket at the 11:27 mark to give CHC their biggest lead of the game at 58-39. Chestnut Hill maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the way with Gwynedd Mercy only getting as close as 11 (63-52) with 1:42 remaining. Haughton scored the final four points of the game to make the final score 67-52.
Manny Clark was the lone Gwynedd Mercy player in double figures, scoring a game-high 21 points while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
For the game, Chestnut Hill shot 44.1% (26-59) from the field while GMU shot 35% (21-60). CHC out-rebounded Gwynedd Mercy 45-28. Gwynedd committed four fewer turnovers (12-16) and outscored their hosts 19-13 in the points off turnovers category.Â
The Chestnut Hill college Men's Basketball team returns to action on Sunday, December 11, 2022 when they host the University of New Haven. Tipoff at Sorgenti Arena is set for 2:00 p.m.
