The Chestnut Hill College women's bowling team was back in action on Friday for the first day of the three-day James Brown Invitational, hosted by Morgan State University and held at the AMF Towson Lanes in Towson, Maryland.

The Griffins went 1-4 on the Day One Baker Format competition, competing against Division I institutions and a nationally ranked Division II school.  Chestnut Hill totaled 4,087 pins to rank 13^th among the 14 school competing after the first day of competition.

Opening the competition against #10 Mount St. Mary's, the Griffins fell 940-815.  Jess Hollabaugh (Folsom, Pa.) paced the Griffins, filling nine of ten frames while Eryn Moore (Bainbridge, Pa.) filled eight of ten.

Maddie Gannon (Glenolden, Pa.) filled nine of ten frames in Chestnut Hill's second match as St. Francis (Pa.) handed the Griffins an 883-745 loss.  Gannon also recorded strikes on nine of her 14 shots.

In the third match, the Griffins tallied their highest baker score of the season against St. Francis- Brooklyn.  The team recorded a 246 in game two of the match leading the squad to a 900-846 win over the Terriers.  Gannon led the team, filling nine of ten frames.  Chase Clifford (Philadelphia, Pa.) also had a run of six straight strikes to help get the victory.

Another nationally ranked team awaited the Griffins in their fourth match.  Kutztown University, #25 in the most recent NTCA poll defeated Chestnut Hill 878-792.  Hope Widmer (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) led Chestnut Hill, filling eight of ten frames

In the fifth and final match, Chestnut Hill faced host and #18 Morgan State University.  The Bears needed a come-from-behind effort to defeat the griffins 867-834 in what was Chestnut Hill's closest match of the day.  Gannon and Moore each filled nine of ten frames.

The women's bowling team is back in action on Saturday for Day 2 of the James Brown Invitational at the AMF Towson Lanes.
