The Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team battled throughout their game against Felician University but were unable to overcome a four goal first half deficit as the Golden Falcons defeated the Griffins 9-5 Friday afternoon at Tryon Field in Rutherford, New Jersey
The Griffins fall to 1-6 overall with the loss and 0-2 in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games. Felician improves to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa.) Â led the offensive attack for the Griffins scoring four times.Â
Danielle Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) also scored for Chestnut Hill. Schwartz led the team with ten total shots while
Danielle Vassallo and
Frances Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) had five shots apiece.Â
Elizabeth Bennett (Swedesboro, N.J.) led the team with two ground balls and two caused turnovers
.  Mel Amador (Cape May, N.J.) recorded 17 saves in goal.
Felician jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and increased it to 5-0 with a goal just 1:39 into the second quarter. Schwartz got the Griffins on the board with the first of her four goals at the 11:09 mark of the second quarter  with
Danielle Vassallo scoring at the 7:19 mark to make the score 6-2. Both Chestnut Hill goals were unassisted.
The Griffins' defense held the Golden Falcons to just three goals in the second half but were unable to significantly close the gap.  Paige Merz scored a man-up goal for Felician early in the third quarter with Schwartz answering back with a goal in the final 90 seconds of the period, making the score 7-3 heading into the final 15 minutes of action.
Another Golden Falcons goal just nine seconds into the fourth quarter increased the deficit for the Griffins to 8-3. Schwartz responded with two unanswered goals however to pull the Griffins within three 8-5 with just under ten minutes remaining. Chestnut Hill would get no closer and the Golden Falcons added a late goal to round out the scoring in the 9-5 Felician win.
The Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team is back in in action on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 when they travel to nearby Jefferson University for a CACC contest. First draw is at 4:30 p.m.
