Geiger's Pinch-Hit Single Gives Griffins a Walkoff Win Vs. Felician

Justin Geiger's pinch hit single in the eighth inning scored Sam Barletta with the winning run as the chestnut Hill College baseball team produced yet another walkoff win in a conference game this season, defeating Felician University, 2-1 in game one of their doubleheader at Hostelley field in North Wales, Pennsylvania.

The Griffins have walkoff wins against Goldey-Beacom College (2-1, 9 innings) and Dominican college (2-1, eight innings) earlier this season. The win evened Chestnut Hill's overall record at 16-16 as they improved to 7-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contests.  Felician falls to 14-15 overall and 8-4 in league play.

Game two was postponed after two rain delays before five full innings could be played.  The game will be made up in its entirety at a date to be determined.

The walkoff hit made a winner out of Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) who pitched all eight innings for his league leading sixth win of the season.  The senior hurler allowed six hits and one run while striking out four.  The win was also his third complete game of the season, also a league best. Dietz lowered his earned run average to 3.54 and now has 47 strikeouts on the season – both marks ranking among the top five in the CACC.

Dietz also contributed with his bat, hitting his tenth double of the season in the second inning and later scoring the Griffins' first run on Pat Meenan's (Oreland, Pa.) infield groundout.

Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) laced a double the touched off the extended glove of Felician centerfielder Mike Kuver with two outs in the eighth. Geiger (Phoenixville, Pa.) followed with a hit just fair down the right field line scoring Barletta with the winning run.

Felician got its only run in the third inning when Dauri Genao scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.

Following the Felician score, Dietz allowed just one baserunner (on an error) until the seventh inning when he gave up two singles to start the inning. He got out of the jam inducing ground balls to get the lead runner at third (twice) and after a walk to load the bases, retired the side with another ground ball out.  He retired the side in order in the eighth setting the stage for Geiger's heroics.

The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team is back in action on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 when they travel to play Wilmington University for a single game at Wilson Field in Newark, Delaware.  First pitch is set for 3:00 PM
