Wilmington University and the Chestnut Hill College Baseball team opened their three game series Wednesday afternoon with the wildcats taking advantage of four Griffin errors to come away with a 4-0 win
The loss drops the Griffins record to 16-17 overall and 7-7 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games   The Wildcats improve to 21-7 overall and 13-2 in league play.
Wilmington's Ryan Sandberg earned his league leading seventh win, allowing just three hits by the Griffins all singles over six innings of work. Sandberg walked five and struck out four.
Andrew Dietz (Warrington, Pa.) pitched a complete game allowing just one earned run and four runs total on just five hits., also all singles while striking out four. Dietz falls to 6-2 on the season.
It was Dietz' throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt that led to the Wildcats first two runs, both of which were unearned in the fourth inning, staking the host team to a 2-0 lead.
The Griffins put runners on the corners in the sixth inning with one out but Sandberg induced a double play ball to get out of the jam ending Chestnut Hill's best opportunity to score until their final at-bat.
Two infield errors by the Griffins in the seventh led to two more runs and a 4-0 Wilmington lead. The Griffins loaded the bases with two out in the ninth inning, but
Sam Barletta (Royersford, Pa.) couldn't make contact as the Wildcats held on for the win.
The Griffins return home for a pair of conference doubleheaders over the weekend at Hostelley field, hosting Nyack College on Saturday and Wilmington on Sunday. Saturday's games start at 3:00 p.m. while Sunday's will start at noon.
