Griffins Score 11 Goals but Fall to Eagles in Connecticut

Danielle Vassallo scored four times as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team kept their game with Post University close for the first three periods before the Eagles went on a 7-1 uprising in the fourth and final period to defeat the Griffins 21-11 at Lamoy field in Waterbury, Connecticut Wednesday afternoon.

The Griffins fall to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  Post improves to 5-10 overall and 4-3 in league contests

Ashley Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.), Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Rexney Thenor (Burlington, N.J.) also scored two goals apiece as the Griffins reached double digits in goals in a conference game for just the second time this season.  Frances Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) also tallied a score for the Griffins.

Abigail Galazka (Philadelphia, Pa.), Molly Killion (Philadelphia) and Danielle Vassallo (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the Griffins with three ground ball apiece while Torrin Kelley (Hanover, Pa.) led the team with three caused turnovers.  Mel Amador (Cape May, N.J.) had 10 saves in goal for the Griffins.

Schwartz tallied her first goal with 6:40 left in the opening quarter, tying the game at 1-1.  Post then scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead.  Watson and Schwartz scored 23 seconds apart early in the second quarter to pull the Griffins within two 5-3 and Frances Vassallo added a goal at the 5:50 mark to cut the lead to 5-4. 

Post scored four straight goals after Vassallo's and opened up a 9-4 lead before Danielle Vassallo and Watson closed out the first half scoring with unassisted goals, Watson's with just 1:18 left to claw back within three 9-6 at halftime.

The Eagles pushed the lead up to six in the third quarter. Thenor followed  with two straight goals to again bring Chestnut Hill back within four 14-10 as both teams headed into the final period.

Danielle Vassallo tallied a man-up goal at the 8:11 mark to make the score 15:11 before Post scored the final six goals of the game to pull away with the win.  Four of those were Morgan Cassiliano, who finished the game with ten goals scored.

The Griffins close out their season with a game at Caldwell University on Saturday, April 23, 2022.
