The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team dropped both ends of their doubleheader on Saturday against Wilmington University, losing the opener 7-3 before dropping a hard fought 2-1 decision in the nightcap.
The two losses put a damper on the team's senior day activities as the Griffins honored 15 seniors playing in their final season at Chestnut Hill in

between games of the twinbill.
The Griffins drop to 17-19 overall and 9-9 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games. The Wildcats, improve to 14-8 overall and 16-3 in league play.
Thomas Hughes tossed a complete game in the nightcap, allowing just two runs, both coming in the Wildcats final at-bat. Hughes allowed just four hits while striking out five in the loss.Â

Chestnut Hill's lone run came in the sixth inning as
Andrew Dietz singled, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an obstruction play when he got tripped up by the Wildcats third baseman as he was attempting to score, giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
Wilmington came back with two runs in the seventh with the go-ahead run scoring on a bases loaded walk. The Griffins went down in order in their final at-bat as the Wildcats completed the sweep.
Mike Kiefer tossed seven innings in the opener, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out three in the losing effort. Â Five different players had two hits apiece for the Griffins with
Patrick Meenan and
R.J. Huth driving in runs.  Evans scored two of the Griffins' three runs in the contest.
Wilmington's Matt Warrington opened the scoring in the third with a home run to center field giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead . Wilmington scored two more in the fourth before Huth brought home the first Chestnut Hill run, grounding into a fielder's choice to score Evans in the fourth inning. Two batters later, Meenan raced home on a wild pitch for the second Chestnut Hill run, cutting the Wildcats lead to 3-2.
Evans tripled to lead off the sixth inning and scored when Meenan doubled to tie the score at 3-3.
The Wildcats retook the lead in the seventh, taking advantage of a Griffins infield error to lead 4-3 and added another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly. The Griffins put two runners on in the bottom of the eighth but were unable to score. The Wildcats added two insurance runs in the seventh to make the final score 7-3.
The Chestnut Hill College baseball team returns to action on Monday, April 25, 2022 when they host Felician University at Hostelley Field for a single seven inning game. The game is a makeup of the one postponed by rain on April 14. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m.
