Box Score The Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis Team won their eighth straight match Saturday afternoon, defeating Dominican College 4-3 at Manny Welder Park in Monsey, New York.
The hard fought win enables the Griffins to clinch a playoff spot in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament as well as clinch a home playoff match if they do not receive a bye by winning the regular season title. Chestnut Hill is 6-0 in CACC matches and 9-2 overall. Dominican falls to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in league matches.
The Griffins swept the doubles matches to jump out to an early 1-0 lead winning the doubles point.Â
Joao Sousa (Figueroa de Foz, Portugal) and
Domagoj Dugandzic (Stuttgart, Germany) started things off with a 6-0 win over Faris Nadir and Qualib Ladhani at #3 doubles.Â
Tom Pitchley (London, England) and
Joseph Gregory Kvint (Huntington Valley, Pa.) followed with a 6-1 win over Marcus Lee and Anthony Kwok at #1 doubles. The Griffins' #2 doubles team of
Noah Cutting (Bury St. Edmonds, England) and
Mark Gladkyy (Vineland, N.J.) fell behind 3-0 in the match to Guihorme Salem and Skylar ross before rallying to win six of the next seven games to take the match 6-4 and complete the sweep.
Sousa put the Griffins up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kwok at #4 singles. The Chargers then evened the score at 2-2 with wins at #1 and #2 singles before Kvint turned the momentum back in the Griffins' favor with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tanaka Chabata at #3 singles.  Gladkyy then clinched the match for Chestnut Hill, recording a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ross at #6 singles. Dominican won the final match of the day at #5 singles, making the final score 4-3.
The Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis Team returns to action on Monday April 11, 2022 when they host Post University at the CHC Tennis Courts. First serve is at 2:00 p.m.
